We are focusing on the 6-cup moka pot, but please note that you can choose among five different sizes. You can pick a suitable model if you brew coffee only for yourself, but also if you make it for other members of the household.

Bialetti is a reputable brand from Italy, and this moka pot was designed there, too. Alfonso Bialetti was the inventor of this coffee maker type, so it is no wonder this original model is still considered to be among the most reliable ones. It can make strong and flavor-filled coffee, but if you want to make the most out of it, make sure to combine it with the moka coffee made by the same manufacturer.

This Italian espresso maker weighs just over five pounds, and it comes in an attractive octagon-shaped design. It takes only five minutes for it to brew your coffee, and even less to learn how to use it. It is very simple to use, which means beginners will appreciate this model too.

The parts are easy to assemble, and you will have to remove them for thorough cleaning. That takes some time since you can’t wash the components in the dishwasher. Fortunately, deep cleaning is only required occasionally, which makes maintenance easier.

  • Size: 9-cup, 12-cup
  • Material: stainless steel + glass cover knob
  • Weight: 1.4 pounds

More features: dishwasher safe, filters included, durable, perfect for camping

Coletti is a veteran-owned brand, which is why they know a lot about making coffee the old-fashioned way. They applied all their knowledge when designing this Bozeman Percolator.

It is a popular stovetop moka pot model for outdoor use, and many coffee brewers adore it. It is exceptionally durable because the manufacturer didn’t use any plastic or aluminum. Instead, it went with stainless steel for optimal longevity. That makes the unit suitable for any outdoor conditions.

The designers added a rosewood handle that always remains cool and enables you to pour your coffee effortlessly. Unfortunately, some users noticed that the lid didn’t snap on, which is why you need a bit of extra care while pouring.

The product weighs less than 1.5 pounds, which makes it easy to transport. Once you return home, you can wash it in a dishwasher, and it will be ready for the next camping trip.

The taste of coffee made in this stainless steel moka pot is amazing. • Suitable for camping and outdoor use
  • Includes pack of filters
  • The handle always remains cool

The Most Feature-Packed Moka Pot

De'Longhi EMK6

Features
  • Type: electric
  • Size: 6-cups
  • Material: aluminum
  • Weight: 2 pounds

More features: 2-level safety with automatic shut-off, easy to clean, durable, easy to operate

DeLonghi is a reputable brand that tries to make their appliances stand out, which is what they did in this case, too. Even though old-fashioned coffee making is not rocket science, the company tried to add some useful features to this product. For example, this moka pot can keep your coffee warm for up to 30 minutes.

This DeLonghi espresso machine features an automatic shut-off feature, which is convenient to prevent overflow or burning when you forget you turned on the machine. Safety is at the highest level thanks to the safety valve that regulates pressure.

It is easy to control the unit, and the indicator lets you know when it is active. Aluminum was the material of choice during the manufacturing process, and the product seems quite durable. This classic Italian moka pot is made of cast aluminum, measures approximately 20cm high, and has the capacity for 1, 3, and 6 cups of espresso. However, you will also find a version for 9 and 12 cups. It has an anti-spill system, made up of a silicone seal between the union of the base and the coffee collector (the area where the prepared drink accumulates). The resistance of all its parts, including the handle, makes this one of the most preferred by users.

Designed like the classic Bialetti Moka pot, the Primula pot is also a model that can be used on both electric and gas cookstoves. As it is made of aluminum, it is much lighter than the LuxHaus, although not as light as the Bialetti Moka pot. Things to Consider

We prepared all the information you will need to choose the perfect moka pot that will exceed your expectations.
We have a comprehensive list of factors you should consider during the buying process. Our team carefully scanned each feature, and we don’t hesitate to get into details about every parameter. In case you still have dilemmas, take a look at our FAQ section that answers some of the most important questions about moka pots.

How to pick the best moka pot coffee maker

9 Best Moka Pots - Most Delicious Coffee With an Authentic Coffee Maker! If you open a product page of a moka pot, you will see a list of features and specifications. You probably don’t know what to make from some of them right now, but that is why we are here!

We divided the features of electric and stovetop models in several categories. The idea was to explain every factor that might affect your final decision in detail. Here is what you should know about moka pots!

Types of the moka pots

The first thing we will discuss is the types of moka pots. You have two basic categories for these units:

  • Electric
  • Stovetop

As the word suggests, electric coffee makers use electricity to brew your coffee. Thanks to that, the manufacturers can add many useful features, which is the case with the De’Longhi EMK6 moka pot. Many electric pots are detachable from the base to provide cord-free serving.

Stovetop moka pots keep things basic. You place them on a stove, and they use heat from the stove to brew your coffee. It is an old-fashioned way that guarantees amazing coffee flavor and beautiful crema. That makes these units, such as Tops Rapid Brew, an excellent choice if you are going camping.

Pot materials

9 Best Moka Pots - Most Delicious Coffee With an Authentic Coffee Maker!Have you ever wondered about the materials manufacturers use for their moka pot models?

Most companies use either stainless steel or aluminum for the base. Stainless steel is a pricier option, but it is also stronger and more durable. The chances are that a unit like this, such as Cuisinox Roma, will last you for years.

As for aluminum moka pots, it is not as durable, but it is incredibly light, which makes it suitable for transport and outdoor use. Aluminum is, however, an option that is not dishwasher-friendly, which makes the cleaning process a bit longer. On the other hand, it is a more affordable material, and you can get excellent deals for a top-quality product, such as in the case of Bialetti Moka Express.

Size

It is time to talk about the size of your moka pot. Usually, you can consider various pot sizes, and find out if it will fit in your kitchen. The size can determine whether the coffee maker is easy for transport if you plan to take it on a camping trip.

9 Best Moka Pots - Most Delicious Coffee With an Authentic Coffee Maker! But your primary consideration should be the capacity of your pot. For example, an average 6-cup moka coffee maker may be enough for you and your partner’s needs. If you are brewing coffee only for yourself, you can go with a single or 3-cup capacity, too.

On the other hand, if you have guests frequently, or multiple household members who love their coffee strong, you can go for large capacity units that brew nine of twelve cups at once.

Weight

The weight of the pot can be crucial for both typical and outdoor coffee lovers at the same time. It sounds great to drink your favorite coffee while camping, and that is what some pots, such as Tops Rapid Brew, will make possible.

The weight of moka pots will vary from one to 2.5 pounds. You may think it doesn’t make a big difference, but every pound of additional weight counts if you are going for an outdoor adventure.

Apart from the weight, size can contribute to portability, as well as the overall construction of the unit. It’s not convenient to take electric moka pots for camping, which is why stovetop pots are a far better option.

Shape

While the performance should be a primary concern, it is only natural that you want your moka pot to look attractive, too. When it comes to design, you may notice classic units, such as the Bialetti Moka Express. Their octagonal shapes are a tradition for some manufacturers.

But you can also choose variants with the round shape like Coletti Bozeman Percolator. It makes it easy to store, especially when you are heading outdoors.

Apart from the shape, the color combination can play a role in how attractive a moka pot looks.

Safety features

9 Best Moka Pots - Most Delicious Coffee With an Authentic Coffee Maker!Safety is incredibly important for such coffee makers. That is why the majority of them are equipped with pressure release valves. Their task is to control the pressure and prevent the pot from exploding or other mishaps.

If you want to avoid overflowing or burning, you can look for electric options with an automatic shut-off feature. Those units, such as De’Longhi EMK6, will turn off the unit as soon as it’s done brewing your coffee. It will even keep the drink warm for a while.

Although there are many additional features, basic ones for a moka pot are to have the heat-resistant handle and lid top. That is why the manufacturers use wood or glass for these components. The idea is to keep your hands safe from getting burnt while you are brewing and pouring coffee.

Warranty

Warranty periods for moka pots can be different, but most manufacturers will keep them anywhere from one to five years. Some companies will offer extended warranties that keep your pot covered for decades. The chances are these warranties are only applicable for manufacturer defects, but it is still nice to have it for the long-term. Make sure to read all the conditions of the deal to ensure that you agree with it.

Cleaning

A moka pot cleaning process will require some engagement on your side. The majority of options allows you to disassemble components for easier cleaning. However, only some of them are suitable for a dishwasher.

That means you will need to wash some models by hand. Depending on the design, it may be more or less tricky to reach corners, and some other spots.

Apart from regular cleaning, it is important to perform a deep clean every once in a while. You will have more details about maintenance requirements in the instructions for your product.

Versatility

9 Best Moka Pots - Most Delicious Coffee With an Authentic Coffee Maker! It doesn’t matter which product you are buying – it is always nice to have the highest level of versatility. When it comes to moka pots, you can check how versatile they are by testing their suitability for different stoves.

For example, you may encounter a moka pot for a gas burner, but one that you can’t use on a glass stove. In that case, we recommend you Tops Rapid Brew, which is suitable for all types of stoves.

While we are talking about versatility, let’s mention camping once again. You want to find a unit that is easy to transport, which implies a small size and low weight. On the other hand, portability might not be that important if you only plan to use it indoors.

Price ranges

It is time to discuss the price as it matters to almost any user out there. When it comes to moka pots, their cost may vary significantly depending on the option you select.

You can find a classic moka pot for around $20-$40. For that money, you can get a reliable unit that brews coffee the old-fashioned way. If you go with a premium moka pot, such as the Cuisinox Roma, you can expect to pay a bit more. Overall, even the most durable pots shouldn’t cost more than $100-$150.

If you ask us, the important thing is to consider how much value for money can the product offer. You should keep in mind all the factors mentioned in this buying guide, and try to determine whether the unit justifies the price. In some cases, you might be paying a bit more just because of the brand. But there will be times when the manufacturer ensures high-quality construction and adds various bells and whistles that increase the cost. Some less-known brands may offer an affordable price of their products, which is something helpful to keep in mind too.

FAQ

Should I use cold or hot water to make coffee with my moka pot?

That will solely depend on the instructions for your particular product. That is why you should always read the guidelines before brewing your first pot. It is most likely that the instructions will recommend using cold water with your moka pot. The unit will use the heat to get the water to the right temperature, which means that it is not something you should worry about. You may want to use filtered water with your moka pot. It will deliver the best coffee taste, but it will also minimize buildups in the filter and other unit components. That way, you can extend the longevity of the pot, and time between deep cleanings.

Can my moka pot make espresso?

Technically, the answer is no. A moka pot isn’t capable of making a true espresso cup that you would get with a specialized machine. The reason is simple – this pot cannot achieve the pressure needed to brew an actual espresso. The pressure is significantly lower than in an original machine, for example, an automatic espresso maker, and lovers of that beverage will recognize the difference. Nevertheless, you can use a moka pot to make an authentic coffee that is up to three times stronger than the standard drip coffee. If you have an espresso craving, the chances are that coffee brewed in this pot can help you to satisfy it.

How can I avoid the bitter taste of the coffee?

You will often find that moka pots brew stronger coffee than the standard drip coffee makers. If you want to avoid bitterness, there are several things that you should do. For starters, choose the right grind of coffee. An expert in your local store can probably recommend a type worth trying. Many advanced coffee lovers will tell you to go for coarse grinds. Next, feel free to experiment with the ratio between coffee and water. It is also important to get the heat right. It will take a bit of trial and error the first time you start using a moka pot, but once you figure out how to brew a perfect cup of coffee without any bitter hints, you will be delighted.

It doesn’t come as strange that the Bialetti Moka Express is among the top products on our list. The founder of this company invented moka pots, and almost a century later, they still make amazing products. The unit is extremely versatile, and it comes in five different sizes. It features a traditional octagon design, and it is easy to use since it only takes five minutes to deliver coffee with an impressive taste.

The Coletti Bozeman Percolator is another great suggestion for the best moka pot. It is large and suitable for outdoor use in any weather conditions. That is because its premium stainless steel construction makes it very durable.

While not a classic moka pot, but rather a percolator, the Tops Rapid Brew seems to be perfect for many occasions – from brewing your morning java at home in no time to serving several cups with ease when exploring the great outdoors. No wonder it’s our Editor’s Choice: the whole editorial team enjoyed the simplicity of using this model as well as the coffee taste quality.

Ultimately, it is all about your personal preference. Make sure to choose the best moka pot that fits all your needs, and you will enjoy fantastic coffee flavors!

I just got my new moka pot, and I’m wondering how do I clean it? Can I put it in a dishwasher machine?

I used to make coffee in my old moka pot. But the coffee tasted bad. I tried different things like cleaning with lemon juice, tamping differently, and grinding the coffee just before brewing it. But none of these things worked! So I stopped using my old moka pot for making coffee. Now I use drip coffee which has paper filters that I don’t like. My friend suggested that maybe I need to clean my old moka pot again to get rid of the bad taste. When I researched this on the web, people suggested not cleaning it at all! They said that you can let it build up which is called seasoning and will make your moka pot taste better over time! However, I read a lot about espresso makers. To make a good espresso, the maker has to be cleaned of coffee oils. I did this today for my moka pot. I used a wire brush to clean out the nozzle and filter. The only place I couldn’t clean was inside the coffee basket because it is difficult to get in there. After this, I made a batch of coffee and it tasted ok!

Hey, does anyone know, maybe there is a way to make espresso in a moka pot?

A moka pot is not a true espresso machine. But it can make coffee that is 3 times stronger than a regular coffee. If you want an espresso, then this pot cannot give you that. It only makes coffee that is up to three times stronger than a normal coffee.

I’m not sure what grind I should use. Any ideas?

In my experience, medium grind is the best for moka pots. Although, you can also try coarse. I’ve seen many recommend it as well.

What size moka pot should I get for a family of three?

This depends on how many cups you drink. It’s easy to calculate, I guess, and all the pots come in standard sizes, according to how many cups they make. 1 cup equals 2 fluid ounces, so if you get, e.g. a 6-cup pot, this will make around 10 oz, while a 12-cup one will make approx. 25 oz. So the short answer is, count how much coffee your family drinks at once. There’s no use to make much more than you’re able to drink in one go, otherwise, the rest of it will get stale and cold quickly.

I think 3-cup would be enough. It’s not recommended to drink too much coffee. If do, it will harm your stomach.
