This coffee subscription is a dream come true for enthusiastic coffee drinkers who are also adventurous. If you’re looking to try out new varieties of coffee from international countries that they would otherwise not find locally, then the Atlas Coffee Club is your best pick.

What do we love it for?
  • we were most impressed with the custom delivery schedule and the unique origins of the coffee, which meant we didn't have to wait for long to receive our packages. We also enjoyed the ability to choose between various coffee roasts, including a combination of various coffee profiles and ground or whole beans. The Atlas Coffee Club also has great customer service and a rewards program, which we plan on trying out soon.
    What were we disappointed with?
  • while we were impressed with most of the subscription's attributes, we felt that the Atlas Coffee Club has a minimum processing method variety. Their coffee bags also have no roast dates, which makes it difficult to determine the freshness of the coffee. Yes, Atlas Coffee Club claims that all their coffee is fresh, but it would be nice to authenticate this claim with processing dates. This coffee subscription also lacks blends and roaster variety which are some of the elements that coffee lovers look for.

Trade Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: The US
  • Bag sizes: 12 oz, 10 oz, 5 lb
  • Price: $12.50 to $100
  • Shipping frequency: Every 7/10/14/21/28/42 days

More features:  based in NYC, 55+ roasters, offers single-origin and blends, all beans score 80+ on coffee rating scale

The Trade Coffee subscription has been around since 2018, and coffee lovers sometimes refer to it as the Netflix of coffee. Why? Because it has over 400 types of coffee sourced from responsible farmers in the US. This coffee subscription also sources its beans from some of the most reputable companies, including Merit Coffee and George Howell. The price of the subscription varies based on your preferences but ranges between $15 and $22. When you sign up for the Trade Coffee subscription, you also get access to free shipping and exclusive savings. Shipping schedules vary from 1 week to 6 weeks.

One of the aspects that set the trade coffee paper from the competitors is that when the sign-up process includes a quiz. This ensures you get coffee that matches your personal preferences.

    What are its best features?
  • we especially loved the quiz during the sign-up process that categorizes users into 2 segments; The Classic and The Hook Up. The Classic subscription mainly consists of traditional coffee flavors, while The Hookup includes a wide variety of coffee beans. Trade Coffee also has a Fist Match Guarantee that ensures you get free next delivery if you don't like the first batch that they send you. They also offer discounts of up to 30% on first orders.
    What could be improved?
  • compared to other coffee subscriptions, Trade Coffee is relatively pricey. Their packaging is also not eco-friendly, but they are working on launching compostable bags. If you're a K Cup coffee lover, then you'll need to find another way of brewing your coffee because this subscription does not have this option. We also wish Trade Coffee had a wide variety of organic coffee options, but either way, 400 coffee varieties is a great start!

Best Shipping Coats

Bean Box

Features
  • Shipping location: The US, Canada
  • Bag sizes: 1.8 oz.,12 oz.
  • Price: $16.50 – $24
  • Shipping frequency: every 1, 2, 4 weeks
  • Shipping cost: free

More features: whole bean and ground coffee options, single origins and blends, all roasts

There’s no doubt that Seattle is home to some of the nation’s best coffee roasters, and Bean Box gives you access to a number of them. It allows you to handpick a selection of your favorite coffee beans from the top-rated roasters in Seattle, including Lighthouse, Seattle Coffee Works, and Blueheart. When you subscribe to Bean Box, you can choose between espresso, decaf, and dark medium or light roasts, and if you enjoy variety, you can get a combination of multiple roasts. This subscription is available in 3, 6, and 12-month options ranging between $20 to $24 every month.

In addition to your preferred coffee, each box comes with roaster profiles, an artisan treat, tasting notes, and brewing tips. Bean Box also has a coffee tasting subscription for $16.50 that gives you access to 4 different coffees every month.

    Why are we impressed?
  • We loved the fact that Bean Box has 2 types of subscriptions; coffee bags for people who know exactly what they want and coffee tasting subscriptions for those that are trying out different varieties. All their coffee blends are freshly roasted and delivered to customers as soon as possible to retain the immaculate taste. They also offer free shipping and have a variety of discounts and promotions for their customers.
What negatives must you be aware of?
  • while Bean Box offers free shipping for their orders, if you opt for the free trial version, you'll have to pay for shipping. They also don't offer international shipping, so if you wanted to gift it to a friend, you'd have to order at your address and then ship it yourself. We also realized that even though the price was fairly affordable, the subscription was slightly expensive compared to other alternatives.

Best with Own Roastery

Driftaway Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: US, worldwide
  • Bag sizes: 4-12 oz; 1, 2, 5lbs.
  • Price: $1.06 to $34
  • Shipping frequency: every 1, 2, 4 weeks
  • Shipping cost: free for all orders

More features: based in Brooklyn 100% pure coffee only (no flavoring), single-origin coffee, own roastery

Driftaway Coffee was started as a passion project which is why it’s amazing. The box has everything for everyone, including tea lovers. Unlike most subscriptions, with Driftaway Coffee, you don’t just take an online quiz. They have a matching process that involves sending you a tasting kit with 4 different coffee profiles for you to assess. You then rate them based on your preferences, and Driftaway Coffee uses thin information to select coffee varieties you might love. They send 1 pound of coffee of 1 ounce in every subscription and offer weekly, biweekly and monthly deliveries. If you opt to go for a 6 month or annual subscription, you save up to 10% of the cost.

One of the elements that set Driftaway apart from the competition is that they have a package for iced coffee lovers. This cold brew subscription comes with a brew bag that you simply steep in cold water for around 16 hours, and you’re sorted for the week.

    What are its best features?
  • we were impressed by how inclusive Driftaway coffee is. There are very few subscriptions that include iced coffee varieties, and this is one of them. We also enjoyed the coffee explorer kit, which comes in handy for coffee lovers that are unsure of what they want in their subscription. They also offer virtual tastings on their social media to help with the kit. Driftaway coffee contains fruity light roasts from African countries, classic medium roasts, balanced light-medium roasts, and bold dark roasts.
    What could be improved?
  • even though Driftaway coffee subscription is high quality, the initial testing kit is not necessary for coffee lovers that know what they want. We felt it would be better if they had an opt-out option for this one. Driftaway coffee also doesn't have coffee varieties for decaf loves and is relatively expensive compared to other subscriptions. They also roast all their beans, so if you prefer variety from various roasters, you should try other options.

Best Gift Boxes

Mistobox Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: The US
  • Bag sizes: 12 oz.
  • Price: from $10.95
  • Shipping frequency: every 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks
  • Shipping cost: $5

More features: based in San Francisco, light, medium, and dark roasts; offers single origin, blends, decaf

MistoBox is undoubtedly one of the most popular coffee subscriptions. They have over 500 coffee varieties for you to choose from, all of which are from 50 different roasters. Once you sign up for a subscription, you’re automatically paired with a coffee expert. Their main job is to learn about your coffee preferences and personal tastes so that they can match you with your favorite roasts. If you know exactly what you want, you can also choose the coffee selection yourself. All coffee beans from MistoBox are freshly roasted, and they offer light, medium and dark roasts. They also have single origin, blends, and decaf options.

MistoBox coffee subscription is available in 2 tiers; the deluxe and exclusive tiers. The deluxe tier has single origins, medium roasts, and espresso coffees and starts at $13. The exclusive tier, on the other hand, mainly has the best coffee varieties and starts at over $15 for every bag.

What do we love it for?
  • we were impressed at the wide variety of coffee options that Mistobox offers and their affordability. We also loved that they paired us with a coffee curator, which ensured that we only got personalized coffee options. MistoBox also features some of the best coffee roasters, including Klatch Coffee, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Cartel Coffee Lab, etc. They also have custom delivery schedules of 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks which is a huge plus.
    What were we disappointed with?
  • while MistBox is fairly affordable, all orders incur a $5 fee which is highly inconvenient, especially if you opt for the weekly subscription. That's a whopping $20 every month! They also only have one bag size of 20 ounces which is not enough for coffee lovers and does not have sampling options during the onboarding process. This makes it difficult to determine the coffee variety you'd like delivered. MistBox also doesn't offer information on sourcing standards for the roasters.

Crema Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: The US only
  • Bag sizes: 2.5, 4, 10, 12 oz; 5 lbs,
  • Price: $15 – $22 (per 10-12 oz. bag)
  • Shipping frequency: 3, 5, 7 days; 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks
  • Shipping cost: free

More features: whole bean and ground coffee options; light, medium, dark roast

During the sign-up process with Crema.co, you have to fill out a survey with a series of questions aimed at identifying your coffee prices. This includes whether you prefer dark or light roasts, how you take your coffee, and your sense of adventure when it comes to trying out different coffee varieties. Once you’re done, Crema.co presents you with a variety of matches that you’d like, some of which include sampler bags.

Filling out the quick survey also gives you a $5 discount on your first order. Crema.co has partnered with over 50 micro-roasters across the US, and you can choose to receive between 12 ounce and 5-pound coffee bags delivered every 1,2,3 or 4 weeks. They have over 450 coffee varieties and offer free shipping.

    Why is it special?
  • we loved how easy it is to customize or repeat your coffee subscription. This gives you full control of the coffees you'd like to take during the next delivery. Crema.co has also partnered with independently owned micro-roasters, including Ritual Coffee, Junto Coffee, Partners Coffee, etc. We were also impressed by their CSR efforts as they donate $5 from every 5-pounds bag to an NGO that is focused on fighting the coronavirus. Crema.co is also fairly affordable.
    What are the flaws?
  • a while back, Crema.co decided to leave social media. While they claimed it was to focus on offering value to their clients, it makes it difficult to reach out to them. They also only offer whole beans, so if you prefer ground coffee, you have to pursue other alternatives. Crema.co only offers free delivery within the US, so if you plan on gifting a subscription to friends or family overseas, you'll have to incur the shipping costs.

Best for Freshly Roasted Beans

Craft Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: The US, international (not EU)
  • Bag sizes: 12 oz.
  • Price: from $6.99 per bag
  • Shipping frequency: every 1 – 12 weeks
  • Shipping cost: $0 (USA); $2.99 per 12 oz (Canada); $7.99 per 12 oz (everywhere else)

More features: whole bean and ground coffee options; light, medium, dark roast

Here’s one of the greatest nightmares of a coffee lover; buying stale coffee beans from the grocery store. The secret to a delicious cup of coffee is using fresh beans, and Craft Coffee has got you covered. Most of the other subscriptions require you to take a survey so that they can hook you up with suitable coffee. Craft Coffee, however, only requires your favorite coffee brand, and they will supply you with similar brews. They ship every 1 to 12 weeks, but all their beans are delivered within 24 to 72 hours to ensure they get to you while they are still fresh.

Craft Coffee delivers its coffee in 12-ounce bags with a $11.99 to $16.99 price tag depending on the variety of coffee you choose. On each delivery, you can get 1 to 6 bags dispensing on your preference. This subscription is best suited for coffee drinkers who are mainly looking for freshly roasted beans.

    What stands out?
  • we loved the fact that Craft Coffee offers free shipping within the US and also delivers in other international countries, excluding the US. Their pricing is also highly affordable, and the best part is that they offer price matching in the event that you find the coffee at a lower price at the grocery store. We were also impressed with their personalization skills that ensure you get coffee varieties that are similar to the ones you.
What cons did we manage to find?
  • while Craft Coffee delivers some of the freshest coffee varieties, they only have 10 flagship blends for you to choose from. If you're adventurous and are looking to explore a wide variety of coffee options, you should look for other alternatives. We also didn't like their presentation and packaging. It seems a bit dull for a coffee subscription, and half the fun in signing up for one is in the packaging. There have also been complaints about their customer service being unresponsive.

Best for Blind Tasting

Angels' Cup

Features
  • Shipping location: The US, Canada
  • Bag sizes: 1 oz., 2.75 oz., 12 oz.
  • Price: $8.99 – $17.99
  • Shipping frequency: every 1, 2, 4 weeks
  • Shipping cost: $3-5 (US), $13-20 (Canada)

More features:  whole bean and ground coffee options; light, medium, dark roast; single origins and blends

If you consider yourself a budding coffee connoisseur, then this review is for you. Angel’s Cup has a wide variety of coffee beans, all of which have been curated for quality. This brand has sampled beans from hundreds of roasters and only ships the best to their subscribers. They charge delivery fees based on your subscription, ranging from $3 to $5.

One of the defining elements of Angel’s cup subscription is their tiers; The Cupping Flight, All-Stars, and the most intriguing one; The Black Box. This subscription delivers 4 different roasts with one thing but a unique identifying number. Once you brew and sample the coffees, you can then log on to their app to find out what they sent you.

    What are its best features?
  • we were absolutely impressed by the black box subscription! You may not want to admit it, but every coffee drinker is biased. You'll automatically judge the quality of coffee based on the brand name and/ or packaging, and this prevents you from finding out what you really like. Their app also acts as an education hub for coffee drinkers, and you also get to learn what other coffee enthusiasts think about various blends.
    What could be improved?
  • while the subscription tiers are exciting, Angel's Cup charges shipping fees on every delivery. The Cupping Flight has a $3 shipping fee, while the All-Stars incur a $5 delivery fee within the US. Delivery to Canada ranges between $13 and 20. Signing up for this subscription also means having little to no control over what you get, which can be a bit unsettling. Angel's Cup doesn't have a bulk quantity option, and all their coffee bags are either 1 oz., 2.75 oz., or 12 oz.

Signing up for a Blue Bottle Coffee subscription gives you access to 3 main types of coffee assortments; espresso, blend, and single-origin coffee. During the sign-up process, you have to fill out a 10-question survey that helps them match you up with the best coffee. Some of the questions in the survey may seem off, including your favorite salad dressing and chocolate, but this only gives Blue Bottle more insights into your preferences.

Blue Bottle subscription is available in the US and other international countries, including Canada and the UK. They deliver standard coffee bags of 12 ounces for $18, but you also opt for seller bags of 6 ounces or larger ones of  24 and 36 ounces. Blue Bottle’s shipping frequency is every 1,3, and 4 weeks, and all coffee is shipped within 48 hours of roasting for maximum freshness.

    What makes it stand out?
  • we enjoyed how fresh Blue Bottles Coffee was and their welcome kit subscription. This is especially useful if you've been thinking of upgrading your brewing supplies but haven't gotten around to it yet. This kit slides a coffee dripper, a Blue Bottle tote for $119, 6 12-ounce bags of coffee, and a 90-pack of filters. We loved that they sell iced coffee packs and thor decaf options that are highly inclusive. Blue Bottle also has minimal packaging, which is also attractive.
Which disadvantages must you keep in mind?
  • Blue Bottle Coffee charges shipping fees which is highly inefficient, especially if you opt for the weekly subscription. They only sell whole beans, so if you prefer ground coffee, this subscription is not for you. We also noticed that their prices were higher compared to other subscriptions and that they have a relatively smaller coffee selection. Blue Bottle is, however, a great option for coffee drinkers that are just starting out and are looking for minimal coffee options.

Best Coffee Variety

Peet's Coffee

Features
  • Shipping location: The US, Canada, International
  • Bag sizes: 18 oz.
  • Price: from $14.95 per shipment
  • Shipping frequency: every 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 8 weeks
  • Shipping cost: $5-30 (US)

More features: offer whole bean and ground coffee, K-pods, Nespresso capsules; single origin, blends, decaf

If you’re a coffee enthusiast, then you’ve definitely come across Peet’s Coffee in the grocery store. While the store version is still high quality, you can easily have this coffee delivered to your doorstep while it’s still fresh. Peet’s coffee ships out coffee bags 24 hours after roasting to ensure you get a delicious brew.

This subscription has 3 main tiers, the single-origin series that includes coffees from all over the globe, the small-batch series for unique coffee, and the signature blends series that launched Peet’s to its glory.

    Why is it special?
  • we loved that you can either sign up for the curated subscription or build your own. If you opt for the former, you gain access to different coffee varieties every month until you find a coffee selection that you love. This is great for adventurous coffee drinkers that are looking to explore various coffee varieties. If you already know the coffees you'd like to receive, building your own subscription is perfect. It allows you to highlight your favorite coffees and then delivers them to you.
    What are the flaws?
  • Peet's coffee charges shipping fees for every delivery, and this ranges between $5 to $30. We also realized that their specialty is dark roasts, so you might want to check out other subscriptions if you mainly prefer light roasts. Peet's coffee lacks a variety of decaf coffee selections and does not have K-Cup options. All the coffee delivered is roasted by Peet's, so if you want to sample coffee from other roasters, this subscription is not the best fit for you.

Things to Consider

According to the BBC Trusted Source How the world came to run on coffee It’s a rich dark liquid that flows across the world and greases the wheels of our economies. It’s one of the most traded commodities. And there are fears that, with a seemingly irrepressible demand, we may one day run dry. www.bbc.com , people drink more than 2 billion cups of coffee every day. This just shows how much we have become accustomed to taking coffee, which is why it’s not surprising that subscriptions have now become popular. In the US, there’s a large list of coffee subscriptions for you to choose from. How do you make sure you find one that suits your tastes and preferences? What factors should you consider before going through the sign-up process? We have compiled a quick guide to help you out!

How to Pick the Best Coffee Subscription

Coffee subscriptions are highly convenient because they allow you to access your favorite coffee varieties without leaving your home. Buying the same coffee every day can get boring very fast, especially because there’s a wide variety of coffee selections for you to sample. Here are factors you should use to pick the best coffee subscription.

Coffee variety and quality

10 Best Coffee Subscriptions for Avid Coffee Lovers
The best coffee subscription offers both whole bean and ground coffee with a wide variety of roasts

What kind of roasts do they have? Find out whether your referred subscription offers whole-bean or ground coffee and whether they have a variety of origins and roasts including, light, medium, and dark. This ensures that you have a wide selection to choose from, allowing you to get out of your comfort zone when it comes to coffee. You should also check out their decaf options and the availability of iced coffee brews.

Price

You don’t have to break the bank to get your favorite coffee delivered to your home. As you compare the prices, make sure you also consider options such as the bag sizes, the number of coffee varieties delivered, and delivery fees. For instance, if one subscription is $5 more than the rest, but it has more coffee selections, offers free shipping, and cones in a larger size, you should go for it. Some coffee subscriptions also offer free shipping, so we advise that you analyze all your options carefully.

Customization

Personalization is key. Find out the number of subscriptions they have and whether one of them can be customized to fit your preferences. Some coffee subscriptions pair you with a curator to ensure you only receive the best match for you, while others give quizzes to get insights into your taste. You should also consider the frequency of shipping with regards to the size of the coffee bags and the quantity being delivered.

Shipping location, cost, and time

Make sure the subscription you go for delivers within your location. Most of the coffee subscriptions ship within the US, but there are others that offer international shipping. This is especially important if you live overseas or plan on gifting a friend who lives outside the US. Find out how long shipping takes, as this will help you determine the subscription you should go for.

Don’t forget to check whether they charge shipping fees because this will factor into the overall cost of your subscription.

The good news is that there are some subscriptions that offer free shipping, including Crema.co, Beanbox, and Driftaway Coffee.

Customer service

Customer service is very important when you’re thinking of buying from a brand. How does the subscription handle negative reviews? Do they respond to customer queries? Can you reach them with ease should you ever need to? All these are factors that you should consider! Keep in mind that coffee is in the food category, and should you experience any dissatisfaction, you need to make sure that your issue will be solved swiftly and efficiently. For instance, if your package has missing brews or you received stale coffee, the subscription should reach out to you as soon as you raise your complaints. Make sure you read online reviews, as this will give you an unbiased assessment.

Website and app

This is one of the most underrated aspects of a coffee subscription, yet one of the most important. Find out whether their website is easy to use and how responsive the design is. It’s important that you’re able to access the site using your mobile device in case you’d like to change your subscription or cancel it. We advise that you go for coffee subscription services that have a mobile app because they are highly convenient. For instance, Angel’s Cup subscription has a mobile app that you use to note your review of various news. It also allows you to connect with other coffee drinkers and read their reviews on the various blends.
